Steelers to Sign RB Rico Dowdle

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to sign free agent running back Rico Dowdle, according to Jordan Schultz.

Dowdle, 27, has played five NFL seasons with time spent in Dallas and Carolina. He has rushed for 2,540 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. Last year for the Panthers, he amassed 1,076 rushing yards, 297 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

While starting running back Jaylen Warren returns for the Steelers, Kenneth Gainwell left in free agency. Dowdle will likely have a role behind Warren in the backfield.
