Sibling rivalry is back in a brand new light. Brother’s War is the newest Standard set for Magic: the Gathering and players are excited to get a glance at the latest cards. On Thursday October 27, Wizards of the Coast premiered a new announcement stream that highlighted all the important beats from Brother’s War.
In that broadcast viewers were given a sneak peek at just a few of the cards they can grab in the new expansion. Here’s everything you need to know from the announcement stream, just in case you missed it.
Each expansion in Magic: the Gathering typically ushers in a new mechanic to add a bit of flavor to the new cards. For Brother’s Ward however its introducing just one new keyword, but it is welcoming back three familiar mechanics that players have seen in the past.

In Brother’s War players are going to see just one new keyword, but it sure is a powerful one. “Prototype” allows players to play cards for cheaper with diminishing effects. For
Phyrexian Fleshgorger , players can opt to cast his creature for 3 mana and gain a 3/3 instead of paying seven for a 7/5. The card will have all other keywords in it’s text box regardless of how it was cast. For example, whether a player pays three or seven,
will always have Menace, Lifelink and Ward.
Powerstones are relatively new, but they were first introduced in the previous set of Dominaria United.
